The last few nights have been really wet so the ground is extremely soggy. As we're (this is a general statement and does not reflect the views of Beth) sick of puddles we tried to find somewhere to go that was dry! We decided on Conkers, a self described "Hands-on experience for all the family".
Getting there was a bit of an adventure since it's in the middle of nowhere and there is no direct route from the house but after a few wrong turns we arrived. Inside there was a variety of exhibits mainly about animals and the environment. Have to say that we didn't really get to read anything or savour the exhibits as our tour consisted of running at break-neck speed, in circles, pushing
any button within reach. Probably a good thing that it was a very quiet day and we were just about the only ones in there. Unfortunately the train wasn't running as the track was being replaced but we did have a good look. There was also an adventure playground that Beth enjoyed climbing around and playing on including an enclosed slide. Using rather poor judgment, I decided that since it was really dark and 'curly' I should go down the slide with Beth. Unfortunately, I misjudged my girth (I keep forgetting about the bump) and got a little stuck - or at least doubled over and not in a suitable position for 8-months preggers!
From that we headed outside to wander around the lake and explore the activities they had dotted around. There were a few puddles but between us all, we managed (just) to keep Beth away from them. At the far side of the lake was a wooden house with a big carved seat. Beth immediately took possession of it and got most upset if any of us tried to sit in it. Obviously fancies herself as a queen, though of what I'm not sure!Of all the exhibits and exciting stuff we looked at, of course her
favourite thing was the Fireman Sam fire engine! It didn't move, the steering wheel didn't turn and the bell wasn't working but still just sitting in it seemed to be the highlight of the morning. So much for paying £6 each to get in, we'd perhaps have been better going to a shopping centre and playing on the 'rides' there!!
