Watermead Country Park

Today we ventured out to Watermead Country Park so Beth could have another excuse to use her wellies! It was really, really muddy and she certainly made the most of the boots. Unfortunately the wellies didn't save her clothes when she lay spread eagle in a puddle!! It was a little colder than she had imagined and she cried until she had goldfish in hand (oh the power of food bribes).

While there we also climbed to the top of a slippy hill to get a closer look at the woolly mammoth. I have no idea what the significance or purpose of the mammoth is but it certainly is a good feature for sitting and climbing on. :) We walked back down the steps rather than negotiate the slippy hill. However, that involved a further three trips back up and down the steps before we could continue on to feed the ducks . . . at least it wore her out!

There weren't actually that many ducks, I think they had been chased away by all the swans and geese. I don't think our two slices of bread were really sufficient for all the hungry tummies but we tried to share it fairly. We headed off quite quickly after feeding since non of us are great fans of hungry/angry swans and geese (I had my bottom bitten by an angry goose when I was little so have never been very fond of them!).

This afternoon was a rather relaxed affair. Beth checked on her gardening project that grandma has been helping her with. Cress seeds on a paper napkin and paper plate. They seem to be growing very well though I'm not sure how yummy it will be once done. Perhaps she'll eat it hidden inside a very buttery sandwich.

I'm impressed that Beth has an easy time with her boots. Nathan has found his somewhat difficult, though I think he's getting more accustomed to them. They do fall off, however, when he tries to go up stairs or is sitting in his stroller. And I was cleaning off the balcony today because some of the Narcissus bulbs are beginning to sprout (I thought they might like it if I cleared out all of the dead junk around them) and thought that it might be about time to start some gardening projects with him! First I'll have to convince him that the green plants don't need to be thrown in the garbage, only the dead brown ones...

I can't wait until I come over there and I get to tromp around in the mud with Beth! I don't mind if my converse get muddy. ;) I also expect Beth's Grandma to take me to see that woolly mammoth because that is about the coolest thing I've ever seen in a park! And I expect cress seeds in the shape of a "T" to be sprouting upon my arrival. ;) As for the geese, I too was attacked by an angry one of those as a child so we can skip that little outing on my visit. :)
